Magnetic Future is coming... Power your energy!

Do not waste energy and space in supplying superconductors.

Use energy only when and where you really need it.

ABOUT US

Innovation driven by research and passion

The Magnetic Future team brings together early-career PhDs and seasoned advisors with over 70 years of combined experience in superconducting science and technology. Our goal is to translate cutting-edge research into industrial applications, addressing global technological challenges.

WHAT WE DO

Magnetic Future develops innovative and market-ready solutions for powering superconducting magnets through advanced flux pump technology.
The significant reduction of energy consumptions and operational costs enable sustainable progress in critical fields such as:
  • Fusion energy
  • Scientific research
  • Space exploration (electric thrusters)
  • Heavy transport
  • Medical imaging
  • Energy storage
  • Power transmission
Magnetic Future expertises include several topics related to superconductivity and electronics, as cable, coil and transformer design and quench detection and protection.

RESEARCH FOR INNOVATION

Combining academic expertise with an entrepreneurial approach, Magnetic Future transforms cutting-edge research into real-world applications, enhancing industrial competitiveness and sustainability.

We are researcher! Even though we do protect our intellectual properties, we always enjoy to share ideas and results with scientific community and to receive feedback from peer review.

The Magnetic Fusion Team

NEWS

We are hiring!

Do you want to work on technologies that sound like science fiction, but are already shaping the future?

Within the Deep Tech Revolution Call through the project "Scalable HTS Switching Devices for Efficient Superconducting Power Systems", we are looking for a person to join us through a research fellowship.

The required qualification is a Master’s degree, Specialist degree, or old-system university degree in fields such as Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines.

New patents pending

Magnetic Future, as probably any startup, is engaged in many activities. Last months were also focused in patents and trade secrets.

As a first result, Magnetic Future founders are inventors of 3 patent applications filed in 2026.

Interestingly, the 3 patents cover 3 different families of flux pumps.

Aerospace Buyer-Supplier Meeting

Magnetic Future invited as innovative startup to present at Aerospace Buyer-Supplier Meeting organized by Regione Lazio and Lazio Innova in Rome to enforce the regional supply chain in aerospace and defense.

HTSs for data centers

Interesting study, by Tokamak Energy and The BE Company, on the possible impact of high temperature superconductors (HTSs) on data center efficiency.

The study shows that replacing copper with HTSs in data center power distribution could cut power losses by up to 90% at busway level, enabling up to 9% additional IT capacity while significantly reducing operating costs and environmental impact.

Space Propulsion Conference

Report by Hardware Upgrade

In its report on the Deep Tech Revolution program promoted by Area Science Park, Edge9 channel presented Magnetic Future by interviewing co-founder and CEO Giacomo Russo.

Hardware Upgrade, online since 1997, is the most widely read website in Italy for everything related to the world of technology. It focuses on objective, rigorous, and comprehensive analysis of products, tools, services, and solutions. Edge9 is Hardware Upgrade's new business channel dedicated to technology for companies.

Business Angel Network in Vilnius

Magnetic Future presented at the European Business Angel Network (EBAN) Congress 2026 in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The event brought together hundreds of angels, VCs, founders, policymakers, and innovation leaders from across Europe and beyond.

CEO interview

Almacube interviewed Giacomo Russo, co-founder and CEO of Magnetic Future, at the Great-ER Demo Day.

Thanks to the support received during the Great-ER advanced incubation program, Magnetic Future is already preparing the technology for advanced industrial and scientific applications.

Great-ER is created by Almacube and the universities of the Emilia-Romagna Region: University of Bologna, University of Ferrara, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and University of Parma.

Workshop on Energy Storage

Magnetic Future sponsors the Workshop “Frontiers of Energy Storage" held at the University of Rome Sapienza on 5-6 November 2025 with more than 100 attendees.

New research published

Ever wondered how much power it takes to keep fusion magnets running at tens of kiloamperes?

We are excited to share our latest research “On the Advantages of Using Superconducting Contactless Power Supplies for DC Superconducting Coils in Nuclear Fusion Devices” presented at IEEE EEEIC/I&CPS Europe 2025 in Crete, Greece.

Magnetic Future incorporated!

Magnetic Future was officially incorporated as an "innovativative start-up company" in compliance with the Italian laws.

The six co-founders smile for a picture immediately after the signs.

MIT on fusion energy

Very interesting opinion on the race for fusion energy has been published in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Technology Review.

The lack of essential supply chains and process technologies necessary to commercialize fusion energy could doom the US and European countries in capturing the critical geopolitical prize.

What are the essential technologies? (Spoiler: superconductors and power electronics are in the short list).

Vision of a big fusion player

In this Corriere della Sera article outlining Eni's (and Commonwealth Fusion Systems') vision and plans for nuclear fusion, one passage stands out:

"The winner of the challenge is the one who can trigger, continue, and maintain the fusion reaction inside the machine using ever less energy to generate the magnetic field."

If the goal is to reduce energy, working on superconductors, which have negligible losses anyway, is marginal.

On the other hand, there could be orders of magnitude gains in power supplies and current leads. This is precisely Magnetic Future's approach.

Visit to PSI colleaugues

On 8 April 2024, Magnetic Future founders wer invited for a talk in Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland

PSI hosts the SULTAN facility for testing high-current superconductors for the next generation of fusion magnets.

Celebrating new collaborations

New colleagues and institutions are joining the research team.

Every new contribution and opportunity must be celebrated.

Founder interview

Marianna Di Pietrantonio interviewed for the Start Cup 2024.

An idea taking flight

Our very first pitch.
